Tuan-Tuan dan Puan-Puan, Ladies and Gentlemen,

First of all, allow me to congratulate all the organizers of this project for your effort in promoting better understanding, appreciation, respect and tolerance amongst different religions that are being practiced around the world. Amongst the greatest challenges that we have to confront today is to creative, live and sustain a harmonious civil society, As the world is becoming globalized and connected through many different means, it is imperative that we learn to share and respect differences, especially in regards to religious beliefs. In fact, religious belief, spiritual tradition and their translations into daily practices can be taken as a shared global heritage that humanity at large should embrace and cherish. There are many things that one can learn from various different spiritual traditions of the world. There are many secrets, many paths and spiritual treasures that one can unveil from the rich traditions of various different religions of the world, Collectively, they may form as a foundation or backbone for a development, of a sustainable human capital a balanced character that can further contribute in pursuing a sustainable development.

I am deeply honoured to witness the initiation of this project in Penang, in fact, Penang is certainly the most appropriate host for this project. Penang is known for its rich diversity of various ethnic groups, cultures and spiritual belief's. It has a very long tradition of religious tolerance and respect.

Armenian and Acheen Street for examples, have been known for its history of religious tolerance between Islam, Confucianism and Hindu, Acheen Street in fact was at one point known as a `Second Jeddah' where many Haj pilgrims will gather before they embark they ship to Saudi Arabia. The Street also witnessed the presence of many Chinese Kongsis and Indian traders.

The idea of social perseverance and welfare had been translated into Wakaf and Kongsis in a form of Mosque, Madrasahs, houses, temple, shop houses, cemeteries and many more.

Within this historical, social and cultural contexts, I believe that this project is very significant.

I was informed that this project is filled with many engaging activities which include exhibitions, public forums, art competitions and a special spiritual trail that allows us to learn and appreciate the diversity of religious practices and spirit of tolerance amongst the people.

I hope that the public will take this opportunity to engage, and benefit from the project. Your support will definitely contribute in our effort to sustain the beauty of living harmoniously in a rich and culturally diversed society. In a larger context, we can work together to promote common, aspirations and values in our effort to create a peaceful and sustainable world.

'Tuan-Tuan dan Puan Puan, Ladies and Gentlemen,

In closing Once again, I would like to convey my gratitude to Universiti Sains Malaysia, Konrad Foundation especially Mr. Peter Schier and the project committee for inviting me to officiate this exhibition.
