Towards a Global Society

In this Day, Baha’u’llah said, humanity has collectively come of age. He proclaimed that the time had arrived for the unity of all peoples into a peaceful and integrated global society.

The earth is but one country and mankind its citizens.
Baha’u’llah

For such a global society to flourish, it must be built upon fundamental principles that include:

Unity in Diversity – Universal acceptance of the principle of the oneness of mankind is the first fundamental prerequisite for the reorganisation and administration of world peace.

The well being of mankind, its peace and security, are unattainable unless and until its unity is firmly established.
Baha’u’llah

Economic Justice - The Baha’i scriptures offer a fresh approach to address the extreme inequalities of wealth in human society and a spiritual understanding of the purpose of economic growth.

Emancipation of Women - Baha’u’llah proclaimed that men and women are
equal in the sight of God. Recognition of this truth is fundamental for a global
society.

Until the reality of equality between men and women is fully established and attained, the highest social development of mankind is not possible.

Universal Education - The Baha’i scriptures state that every human being has a fundamental right to an education, including the right to learn to read and write.

Regard man as a mine rich in gems of inestimable value. Education can, alone, cause it to reveal its treasures, and enable mankind to benefit therefrom.
Baha’u’llah

The Environment and Development - The unrestrained exploitation of natural resources is a symptom of an overall sickness of the human spirit. Material development must serve not only the body, but the mind and spirit as well.

A Universal Auxiliary Language - Baha’u’llah urged humanity to choose one auxiliary tongue that would be taught in all schools in addition to the local native language, so that people could understand each other anywhere they go on the planet.

The day is approaching when all the peoples of the world would have adopted one universal language and one common script.
Baha’u’llah

A World Federal System – The Baha’i Writings emphatically state that for the first time in its history, humanity can and must create an international federation capable of coordinating resources and solving the problems facing the entire planet. Baha’u’llah calls on all human beings to set their faces towards unity and to allow its powerful healing effects to cure the ills of society.

So powerful is the light of unity that it can illuminate the whole earth.
Baha’u’llah
