The
New Testament
From
Jesus Sermon on the Mount
Blessed
are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed
are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will
be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children
of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew
5.3-12
You
shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all
your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first
commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbour
as yourself.
Matthew 22.37-39
You have
learnt how it was said:
Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.
But I say this to you:
Offer the wicked man no resistance.
On the contrary, if anyone hits you on the right cheek,
offer him the other as well;
and if anyone wants to sue you and take your coat,
give your cloak as well;
and if anyone forces you to go one mile,
go also the second mile.
Give to everyone who begs from you,
and do not refuse anyone who wants to borrow from you.
Matthew 5.38-42
You have
learnt how it was said:
You must love your neighbour and hate your enemy.
But I say this to you:
Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
In this way you will be sons of your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5.43-45
Whoever wishes
to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wishes
to be first among you must be slave of all.
Mark 10.43-44
It is more
blessed to give than to receive.
Acts of the Apostles 20.35
The measure
you give will be the measure you get.
Matthew 7.2
Dont
delude yourself into thinking that God can be cheated, for whatever
you sow you shall also reap.
Galatians 6.7
When you
pray, do not imitate the hypocrites who love... people to see
them [praying], but... go to your private room and, when you have
shut your door, pray to your Father who is in that secret place.
Matthew 6.5-6
